Genesis’ off-road monster has 1,115 hp!

The off-road-oriented concept is powered by a V8 engine.

Genesis continues to draw cool concepts that will not be presented to customers. The X Scorpio is the latest name in a chain of impressive one-off concepts from Hyundai’s luxury brand. Following in the footsteps of the G90 Wingback, the concept raises the dose of madness one step further. Described as an off-road supercar, it lives the philosophy of the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato in a more extreme way.

The high-ground coupe aims to conquer the dunes with 18-inch beadlock wheels and chunky 40-inch off-road tires. Genesis says X Scorpio is developed with a focus on the Middle East’s high-end lifestyle; This explains the aggressive off-road approach and remarkable ground clearance. The cabin is as assertive as the exterior. Inside, there is a sliding screen, four-point seat belt system and a roll cage.

At the heart of the X Scorpio is a V8 that produces 1,115 horsepower and 1,152 Nm of torque. Although such values are often associated with hybrid performance cars, there is no electric support here. The eight-cylinder engine has a displacement of 6,7 liters and probably has a large turbocharger to reach this level of torque. It should be noted that this is a different unit from the 3.2-liter V8 developed for “Magma” and positioned behind the driver.

The X Scorpio is not Genesis’ first off-road-focused concept. Less than a year ago, the X Gran Equator emerged out of thin air, seen as a potential electric rival to the Mercedes G-Class. According to José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Group, this SUV could surprise us by going into mass production. However, it is too early to say whether this two-door layout will receive production approval.
