The upcoming model may be called “Earth”.

If you want to be a major car manufacturer; Selling expensive and flashy flagship products like the Rivian R1, Lucid Gravity or Tesla Model S alone is not enough. To scale up, brands need to produce high-volume models. Tesla has achieved this. Rivian aims to achieve this this year. Thus, it is Lucid’s turn.

Lucid’s pursuit of a broader market share hinges on its upcoming mid-range electric vehicle platform. This platform will be the basis for 3 different non-sedan body types. As of the end of last week, the first official prototypes have come off the production line.

The news of the first completed vehicles comes from a post shared by Lucid’s Head of Communications, Nick Twork, on X. Twork stated that he spent time in Lucid’s prototype production area and watched the new electric vehicles come together.

Twork, who did not give many details, says that people will be “surprised” when the final versions of the vehicles are seen. Electric vehicles share the same core DNA as Lucid’s existing product lineup (Air sedan and Gravity SUV); however, he states that it comes with a “dramatically improved” structure on the manufacturability side. This means an improvement in the cost structure.

Twork’s last highlight is actually the silent but important headline. Lucid has already proven that it can produce some of the most technologically proficient electric vehicles on the market today; However, it has not yet been able to do this with a considerable profit margin. Cost is still a major issue for the American brand, and they are caught between either producing an unprofitable vehicle or positioning it too expensive for consumers to access. Lucid hopes that cash burn will turn positive with the mid-range platform.

Lucid also clearly says that this new platform is designed to be more cost-effective. Rumors expect the starting price of the brand’s model, which will rival the Tesla Model Y, to be around $50,000. That’s a marked drop compared to the Lucid Air sedan, which started at around $70,000, and the Lucid Gravity SUV, which cost $80,000.
